Sui Sung

Obituary of Sui L Sung

After an 18-month long battle, Sui L. Sung, a West Windsor resident, lost his fight with cancer on
Friday, May 11, 2018. He was 55 years young.

Sui grew up in New York City and spent his formative teenage years at The Gunnery, a private
preparatory school in Washington, CT. He had many fond memories of the institution and his
teachers, of playing first base and running cross country for the Highlanders and of the comradery
that transformed into lifelong friendships. Sui then attended Skidmore College where he majored in
Economics before returning to NYC to embark in a career in finance and banking. His professional
career spanned 30+ years with positions at JP Morgan, HypoVereinsbank, and most recently, ICBC
Standard Bank.

Sui was an ardent baseball fan and loyal to the NY Mets - always with the game broadcasting on
television or streaming on his phone during his daily commute, cheering them on (or cursing)
depending on the current play. The highlight of his fan-fest was when he personally witnessed the
Mets become World Champions at Game 7 of the ’86 World Series. Sui was more than a mere sports
spectator. He was a ball player who joined company softball teams and recreational volleyball games.
He was an enthusiastic skier who challenged himself and his daughter to conquer a mountain’s
double black diamond runs. He was an avid runner who participated in local 5Ks with his family and
annual summer corporate challenges with colleagues. He proudly finished the NYC Half Marathon just
months before his cancer diagnosis.

Sports was not his only passion. Sui loved watching movies of all genres and had a fondness for food
– both cooking & eating it – and drink, especially fine wine. He thrilled in the hunt and discovery of a
very drinkable red wine under $20. Known for his wry wit, quirky sense of humor, and dimpled smile,
Sui appreciated spending time with family, friends and colleagues. He will be sorely missed by all.
Sui is survived by his devoted family: wife, Cynthia and daughter, Kira; his mother; brothers Richard
(with Barbara) and Tom (with Judy); sisters Sui Fong Young and Sue Ku (with William) all of New
Jersey; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and out-laws.

A memorial service to celebrate Sui’s life will be held in June. Sui can be honored through donations
