Obituary of David Amador Olmsted

 

David Amador Olmsted, AKA/Stage Name –Dave Martin, 76, Piscataway, passed away on December 15.

Born in Brooklyn, NY to loving parents, Edwin and Josephine (Sanchez) Olmsted, David lived in Englewood and Metuchen before settling in Piscataway, NJ, 12 years ago. A graduate of St. Cecila’s High School in Englewood, NJ, he furthered his education at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA.

David served in the Army from 1961 to 1963 and was sent to Alaska to become a member of the Army Hockey Team.

He was employed with Lab Corp in Raritan for 43 years until his retirement in June 2015.

David had a love for Country and Blue Grass Music. He played rhythm guitar and sang with the Lucky Kaye and Southern Comfort Country Bands. David also performed under the stage name, Dave Martin, live on radio at WDVR-FM – Heartland Hayride in Sargentsville, NJ for a few years. Later in life he found a passion for the Banjo. He went to numerous camps, classes and cruises to learn and play the instrument.David enjoyed traveling & sightseeing, collecting his model trains, and of course, his favorite baseball team, The NY Mets.

David is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lynn Nick-Olmsted, his five children, Craig, Marc Casamassina, Rebecca, David Jr., Electa McGarva and seven grandchildren; in addition, Lynn’s four daughters, Deborah, Joyce, Laura, Barbara and their families.  He will be missed by his brothers, Edwin, Richard and John along with numerous extended family members, friends and his faithful canine companion, Beau the beagle.   

Visitation will be held Friday, December 22, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Somerville Funeral Home, located at 10 West End Avenue, Somerville, NJ 08876, a service will follow at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
